Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, our HKU Ophthalmology Distinguished Lecture Series was postponed earlier this year. We are delighted to announce the return of the series under the theme ‘Ophthalmic Education’.

The HKU Department of Ophthalmology is honoured to have Dr. Andy Chi-On Cheng as our orator of the Distinguished Lecture Series.

Dr. Cheng graduated with a MBBS degree with honours from the University of Hong Kong in 2000. After internship, he underwent residency training at the Hong Kong Eye Hospital, where he developed clinical interests in neuro-ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery. He attained the Master of Medical Science Degree in HKU specialising in Neuroscience and morphological science. After completing his fellowship in the Hong Kong Eye Hospital in 2007, Dr. Cheng underwent further training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, St Thomas & Guy’s Hospital and UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology in the United Kingdom under the mentorship of renowned neuro-ophthalmologist Professor Gordon Plant. Dr. Cheng was subsequently appointed an Associate Consultant at the Hong Kong Eye Hospital where, in addition to his clinical duties, he successfully spearheaded important quality and safety improvement programmes. Dr. Cheng currently serves as an Honorary Consultant in Ophthalmology at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital.


In this lecture, Dr. Cheng will share insights into his clinical interests in neuro-ophthalmology, with a specific focus on optic neuropathies.


We are also pleased to be joined by an expert panel of neuro-ophthalmologists, including Dr. Carmen Kar-Mun Chan, Chief-of-service and Consultant of Hong Kong Eye Hospital, Dr. Noel Ching-Yan Chan, Consultant of Prince of Wales Hospital, and Dr. Nelson Kwok-Foo Yip, Consultant of United Christian Hospital.
